Sunday 16 August On to Wallingford
|
Chimney Meadows |
We woke up to a cloudy scene, but took on water at Shifford Lock, then headed down river to Oxford, through countless sharp bends and willowy sedgy blind corners.
Thank goodness we met the many canoeists and the breasted up pair of working narrow boats, Nuneaton and Brighton, on wider, straighter reaches of river!

Nuneaton and Brighton |
Had lunch below Eynesham Lock.
We took Annie up the Duke's Cut, very overgrown and cluttered with grotty boats around the lock, but failed to get milk, so back down Isis Lock onto the Thames.

|
approaching Osney Lock, avoiding a punt |
Osney Lock was interesting, and a wait, but when we got further we found ourselves in the middle of Oxford Regatta! John steered close to the south bank but had to take avoiding action at times, as a multitude of rowers came past.

Annie moored at the Kings Arms, Sandford |
The river was so pretty that John slowed down, and we decided to stop above Sandford Lock at the Kings Arms, where Ali treated us to a lovely meal, a good end to a lovely day.
