The Middlewich Branch

Barbridge to Middlewich (10 miles, 3 locks)

After a rainy night, we awoke to sunshine. John had scrambled eggs and made tea, after which we set off for the nearby Barbridge Junction, passing a solar powered boat.

We passed the boatyard and lots of moored boats of various types before bridge 2.

Venetian Marina follows Cholmondedton Lock, and looks good, even though squeezed between the lock and the West Coat Main Line railway.

The canal here was designed by Telford, with cuttings and embankments. It still curves about on a high terrace above the River Weaver, which twists and turns even more, far down in its valley below.

In this rural setting Aqueduct Marina is near the high Weaver Aqueduct.Hundreds of Canada Geese congregated here!

Eventually we reached Middlewich and found tasty pensioners meals at The Kinderton in town. We indulged in equally tasty puddings!
