From Thorne to Stainforth

Friday 30 April Thorne to Stainforth

We went out for insoles in Thorne and bought pairs of boots and sandals for me and trainers for Liana from the Factory Outlet shop!

At Thorne Lock, the CRT Volunteer was using a remote control push button affair on a twenty metre cable to work the lock, rather like on French canals.

We cruised the three miles to Stainforth, taking our time, enjoying the scenery and chatting to dog walkers and the many fishermen out together taking advantage of the relaxed COVID-19 restrictions.

At Stainforth we moored just before the New Inn, near landscaped coal tips, large scale redevelopment and opposite permanent moorings.

As it was cool but sunny, we had a good circular walk around the town, which Nicholson’s Guide describes as ‘unprepossessing’, before having ok curry and loaded chips outside the New Inn. We finished and boarded Annie just as the rain started!
